Pick the right capacity
Air fryers are sold by basket size in quarts. A 2 to 4 quart model suits one or two people. A 5 to 6 quart model is better for families or batch cooking. Bigger is not always better: a large unit takes more counter space and needs more time to preheat.
Features worth paying for
- A basket that comes out easily and is dishwasher safe.
- Clear temperature and time controls.
- Multiple cooking modes such as air fry, roast, reheat and dehydrate if you will use them.
- A viewing window if you like to check food without opening the basket.
- A non-stick coating that is free of PFOA and easy to wipe clean.
Cooking tips
Do not overfill the basket, because air needs to circulate around the food. Shake or flip food halfway through. Lightly brush or spray food with oil for a crisp finish. Preheat for a few minutes when a recipe asks for it.
Cleaning and care
Let the unit cool, then wash the basket and tray with warm soapy water and a soft sponge. Wipe the inside with a damp cloth. Avoid metal scrubbers, which can damage the coating. Keep the vents clear and leave space around the unit when it is running.
Safety
Place the air fryer on a flat, heat-safe surface away from walls and curtains. Follow the manufacturer's instructions for maximum temperatures and cooking times.
